  • Camels are pregnant for 12-14 months
  • Baby camels are born without humps
  • They can run within a few hours and make a very loud ‘baa’ sound
  • Baby camels born with open eyes and also have a thick coat of fur
  • The newborn calf is able to walk within 30 minutes, though the two won't rejoin the herd until around two weeks later
  • Camel twins are extremely rare (1 in 10 million chance)
  • Mother and child camel pairings are extremely close, staying together for several years
  • A camel becomes sexually mature at the age of 2 to 3 years, however, do not give birth before the age of 5
  • Calves are fed by the mother milk for about 1 year
